These come from the same line as the HD497, but I've found them very different from the higher model. Their trademark is harsh, emphasized treble combined with elevated mid- and upper-bass. The former gives the inexperienced listener the illusion of high resolution, which in fact left me unimpressed. The latter's function is to provide the appearance of bass precision. Actually, their bass can be described as tight and punchy, but at the same time it lacks extension. It's heavily boosted, therefore I would recommend taking it down at least 6-7 dB by means of an EQ.
The most disappointing part of the spectrum is the mid-range - it is almost non-existent. It's recessed and blurry. Many details are therefore lost.
