These are inferior to the HD215 in some respects, but some people might find the HD205's forward presentation more appealing. They are noticeably more detailed than the HD497 and a bit less-detailed than the HD215. Their bass is better-suited for electronic music than that of the HD497, while still being acceptable for rock and jazz. The HD205 sound neutral and quite natural for closed cans at their price point, their mids are substancially more-detailed than those of the HD497. The latter however offer better highs and a bit more-natural sound.
The HD205 are pretty uncomfortable for most people, especially those with big ears. They were barely acceptable in my case, but extended sessions are inadvisable.
They isolate very poorly for closed cans.
