The Beyerdynamic DT-48A is so unusual that unless you're prepared for it, you could be in for a rude shock. They are heavy, press very strongly on your head, and at first listen may seem to have almost no bass. Not to mention they come with round earpads not suitable for music, and have no plug on the end of the cord. Once you get past these matters, be prepared for a sound not unlike a good electrostatic headphone. The midrange is simply the best I've ever heard, and the best I've heard are the Sennheiser 800 and a Stax SRX MK3. The highs are very good to excellent, and the bass is fine down to about 70 hz. The odd thing about the bass is it does not roll off, but is lower in volume than most \"flat\" headphones by 4 to 5 db from about 60 hz down to 20 hz. To get the somewhat lean bass that I described however, requires a very good seal of the oval earpads, which have to be purchased separately. That seal does not happen immediately most of the time - it may take a minute or two. This headphone has red and blue earcups which I find very attractive.
