The EC7 may;be one of the most striking earbuds out there. A delicate aluminum assembly holds the bud in place just outside your ear canal; by adjusting, the EC7 stays firmly and comfortably in place. Sometimes, however, finding the right position can be a challenge.
The sound is less impressive. A vague, flabby but not overwheming bass is the first thing that captures your attention; there's a strain of subtle treble behind the mids - which can sound hollowed out. Frankly, a cheap bud like the Senn MX400 has more balance (while regularly ralling out of your ears).
Some internet sellers have been auctioning Chinese knock-offs with small design variations. Sometimes, they're unwittingly sold through otherwise credible sellers. An authorized EC7 is always packed in the brown Audio-Technica box, and new units rarely sell for much under $105. The poor sound of the authorized version may make it difficult for some to tell the difference between the two.
